We just had our re assessment today after 2 years. My daughter is still very allergic to tree nuts. The question I forgot to ask is regarding seeds. Does anyone know if it would be safe for her to eat seeds like sunflower seeds or flax seeds? I have been interested in trying more multi-grain breads and was holding off until I could chack with the allergist and then today it completely slipped my mind while we were there.

Thanks for your help. I don't want to wait another 2 years to find out.

Hello,

Don't be afraid to call the Allergist. You may have to leave a message, or speak to a nurse. I always forget at least one question if I don't have a list written down. Don't know if she would be sensitive to these other things; really a question for your Doc since he knows her case.

But I would caution you that even if he says sunflower seeds are ok, you have to watch for cross-contamination with nuts. Some sunflower seed products are processed on the same lines with nuts. With a product such as bread, you would have to call the bakery to see if their seed supplier lists for cross-contamination. Very tricky....be careful.

Take care,
Daisy

My tree nut allergic daughter is fine with flax and sunflower seeds. Although I have only used them in isolation in my own baking because I found most breads etc. with seeds have a "may contain label".

Thanks for your help. I was thinking of adding them to my own baking. The bread making machine has become my new best friend since her diagnosis. I did end up leaving a message for the allergist but have yet to hear back. Thanks again.
