I don't think it's a nut. It's from the same *fruit* as mace. And both are spices.

I did a google search, and I tried to link to the page, but it didn't work.

We had a very heated debate about this issue and then finally consulted our allergist :D

Accorind to him and also on http://www.foodallergy.org/allergens.html#tree

"Is nutmeg safe?
Nutmeg is obtained from the seeds of the tropical tree species Myristica fragrans. It is safe for an individual with a tree nut allergy. "

So I have purchased a carton of egg nog but with the word "nutmeg" on the list I am reluctant to drink it. With what I just read here it looks like it is safe. Does any one here with tree nut allergies drink this?

Paige,

I am allergic to nuts, and have never had a reaction to nutmeg. If you're nervous, maybe start by taking just a teaspoon of the eggnog, and see how you feel. It is hard to try new foods, isn't it? Wishing you all the best,

Soccermom
