I am not sure where to put this, so please, Karen, move this if appropriate.

I believe Pam Lee posted this info before, but in case any British Columbians missed it....the provincial government is hosting a 'Conversation on Health'. There are forums being held across the province and email comments are also being taken. Check out http://www.bcconversationonhealth.ca/ for more information.

I am happy to say that my comment in November made it to a weekly report. They quoted me saying:
Quote:
• Life-threatening food allergies were a concern for one writer who tells us that their child has a life-threatening allergy to peanuts. The writer suggests that “[more support be obtained] in our schools for children with this serious health condition. In addition to having more supervision...we need to work on having more information available for our community...we need to build support for these kids by informing their peers, school personnel and families that people with food allergies are not ‘picky eaters’ but have a life-threatening health concern."

It is interesting to note that this was under the heading of public safety, which I think is an approprate way of looking at this health issue in our schools.

I hope that other people in BC will participate in this conversation. It is our chance to be heard on this important issue, without being filtered by the Education or the Health ministries. I know I plan to atttend the Victoria meeting in March -- I hope others can attend as well!

Caroline
