My 3-year-old son has just been diagnosed with a hazelnut allergy, and we eat out/takeout often.
Does anybody have some favourite nut-free places?
I'm wondering specifically about ice cream, pizza, Timbits, and especially Indian & other Asian restaurants in the Hamilton, Ontario area.
Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Hi Lois, and welcome to the forum.

For your Timbits question: Tim Hortons says that none of their products can be guaranteed as free of peanuts, nuts or other allergens.

See http://www.timhortons.com/en/menu/menu_info.html#aa for their wording (it's pretty hard to see on their site, so I've pasted it here):

Quote:
If I have an allergy, can I eat any Tim Hortons products?
If you have a food allergy, please be aware that Tim Hortons products may contain, or have come into contact with, peanuts, nuts or other possible allergens. Tim Hortons is a bakery environment, serving baked goods that are not in sealed packages. Therefore, we unfortunately cannot guarantee a 100% allergy-free environment.

If you would like more information about ingredients or allergies, please call our customer assistance line at 1-888-601-1616 (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time).

I would not recommend feeding any of their products to someone with a peanut or treenut allergy.

For other ideas, check older posts in this forum. That will likely help you get started. The good news is that a number of restaurants/chains are quite aware of peanut and tree nut allergies.

K.
