Talking Allergies

Catelli's packaging for their pastas does not bear "may contain traces of eggs" warnings like most other dried pastas do. When I called the company to double check if these products would be safe for my egg-allergic sons, the representative on the phone said that they would be. When I pressed for more detailed information about whether or not their egg noodles are produced in separate factories or on a dedicated line, she said no, and that their products would not be safe for someone with a "severe" egg allergy.

I think Catelli needs to add "may contain traces of egg" or "produced in a facility which also processes eggs" warnings to their packaging.

My youngest has had problems with catelli pasta as well. We had been giving it to her before she was diagnosed, and never thought about it much. Then...it seemed like she would be all red around her mouth when she ate it...and finally I called about possible egg contamination. They told me it was of no concern, I actually mailed them back the package of pasta (and never heard back) . I found out on this site that others had issues with their pasta, and I phoned again and was finally was told they were infact made on the same equipment. I was SO MAD!!!

I have been serving Catelli pasta to my nut and egg allergic sons. What is another safe nut free/egg free alternative for pasta

Wow this is really upsetting/ a big revelation. My brother has ana to eggs and sometimes when we go to restaurants and he eats pasta he gets an itchy mouth. One time at a hall he even threw up and we could not figure out why...the chef said he specifically made the sauce with tomatoes, olive, garlic, salt, and was very cautious about cross contamination. We had even read the box because obviously fresh pasta is always out of the question.
I might call them and give them a piece of my mind!

I buy Barilla or DeCecco pasta. It states duram wheat as the sole ingredient and then makes an allergen statement: contains wheat. My son is allergic to egg, dairy and nuts and we've been eating this for years - with no reactions. They do however make pasta with egg - I obviously avoid this one.

As for dedicated lines or shared lines with the egg pasta, I've looked on their website and tried to email but had difficulty as the pasta comes from Italy. We've had no problems so I'm quite satisfied with it.

We use Y & Y brand egg-free chow main noodles.
They cook in 3 minutes and look just like regular spaghetti noodles.
