I can't tell if this is a true allergy or just a severe chemical sensitivity.

But the chemicals in almost all the shampoos on the market today I find to be very harsh on my scalp. Sometimes the smell alone will cause me to start reacting. If I use any of these shampoos, this occurs: my scalp tightens; my glands throb; my sinuses ache; facial angioedema - which will go on to this: a total systemic reaction which includes: wheezing; heart palpitations; aches in joints; and extreme weakness. Anytime this has happened, I ended up going to the ER and being given a high dose of Prednisone.

Anyone ever hear of this? It concerns me because I like to wash my hair and can't imagine not doing so. BTW, allergists know nothing about this where I live. I have other "rare" allergic reactions to blackflies and fire ants.

Justine,

I had a very hard time finding shampoo that did not agrivate my youngest daughters eczema. Every single shampoo bothers her except...

http://www.californiababy.com/super-sensitive.html

We absolutely LOVE it!!! My retailer that was 90 minutes away stopped carrying it...so I ordered a gallon online and had to pay shipping and duty. That totally sucked but we NEED shampoo.
