Hi, everyone!

I have recently developed a weird stomach problem, where my stomach and bowel start spasming and make me violently ill. It lasts anywhere from 4 to 20 hours, is extremely painful and usually I end up in the hospital for the pain and dehydration. It was suggested to me that this might be related to my allergy and asthma problems. I have on occasion has some stomach upset just before experiencing an asthma episode, but this new thing is over the top. Has anyone else experienced anything like this???

It could be an allergy, but have you investigated the possibility of celiac disease? One website I'd recommend on that:

Are there any other symptoms in addition to the stomach symptoms? When I have a moderate (not anaphylactic) reaction to a food, I usually have a lump in my throat, a bit of asthma, and severe stomach cramps.

I'm speaking as a layperson of course, but there are also immune responses to foods not mediated by IgE (the immune globulin that mediates true allergy) -- for example, IgG. Allergists don't usually test for these, but perhaps you might want to ask your doctor about this possibility, as well as non-allergic hypersensitivities such as lactose (or other sugar) intolerance, or celiac disease, mentioned by Helen.

Has your Dr done any testing? Have you ruled out irritable Bowel Syndrome?
