Talking Allergies

I was just wondering if anyone has tried this? Someone told me it taste almost like real peanut buter!!! It is made from soy

Yes, I have tried it. It is pretty good but I'm stuck on the I.M. Healthy Soy Nut Butter. Others like the Sunbutter (sunflower seeds). I don't like the PeaButter though. In other words, most of us eventually find something we like. The funniest thing is that my peanut allergic son doesn't like any of them - he doesn't like the texture (same for eggs - no longer allergic but won't eat them). My non-anaphylactic child only like the I.M. Healthy brand but I guess that's what she got used to.

Not so crazy about the peabutter.
We've also tried I.M. Healthy Soy Nut Butter -- crunchy is better than the smooth (my opinion) -- but still has a bit of a bitter after taste. I'll add bananas and drizzle some honey to cut any bitterness.
My absolute favourite is the crunchy Sunbutter (sunflower seed butter) - YUM! -- Most like peanut butter to me.

I did try it the other night and was surprised! It even smells like peanut butter!!! It does have some after taste........but for someone who is missing peanut butter it taste great!!!!!
Has anyone tried baking with it?

I have used the I.M. Healthy Soy nut butter to make "peanut butter" cookies and they turned out great. Though expensive, it was nice to have them again.

I bake with the peabutter all the time and have had great results, so I assume it would be the same with any "butter". Good luck!

I have seen the I. M. Healthy Soy Nut butter at Wal-mart (shelved with the nut butters) for around $5 -- although still pricey, I find it cheaper than the health food stores.

Thanks for the tip. I usually pay between $6 or even $7 per jar but I find I don't even miss peanut butter with it. I will look to see if the Ottawa stores carry it.

My middle son with no allergies loves peanut butter and now his little brother is allergic. We do not allow any peanut butter in the house. So my middle son now eats freenut butter and says it really is as close as possible, he enjoys it. I could hardly tell the difference.

I tried the freenut butter. It's OK -- though I still prefer the peabutter. However, with the freenut I have the options of crunchy.

I've baked with peabutter and always liked the results.
