Talking Allergies

I have not been able to find Kingsmill egg replacer for a little while - at least one on the grocery store shelf that had not expired. Yesterday I found a box and then at closer inspection found that the label now said Pane Riso foods. The box looks exactly the same as before. I tried to google the new name but found nothing. Has anyone else checked into this change?

No. Do they have any kind of contact info on the box?

I just looked at the Kingsmill website - http://www.kingsmillfoods.com/contact.html - and they do not appear to have egg replacer as a product any more. All they have is gluten-free stuff and Lacteeze... So maybe they "sold" that product to Pane Riso.

I stopped purchasing the egg replacer last year because I tried using 1/2 tsp baking powder mixed with 1 tsp oil and 2 tsp water for my recipes and I found it worked better. It never went lumpy.

I only used the store-bought replacer briefly at the start of our allergic journey - until we found out my son was allergic to potato (it has potato starch in it).

I now use a variety of egg subs, including an oil/water/baking powder mixture. My favourite one is a mixture that I make by boiling flax seeds with water, and then straining it. I then freeze it into cubes, which I call fleggs (flax eggs). It's true!

I love my fleggs.

I have no choice but to use the boiled flax seeds... my son is allergic to eggs and potatoes and all the commercial egg replacers have potato starch in them.
I've just started trying out ground flax instead of whole seeds... that way there are no visible seeds in the stuff I bake. I've only tried it twice but it worked quite well!!!
