I just recieved the results from my allergy tests and I am allergic to Barley. I also researched and found that Barley contains Gluten. So can I deduce that I am allergic to Gluten or is further testing necessary?

Thanks for the info

Are you allergic to everything that contains gluten or just barley?

I would suggest you speak to your allergist.

As I understand it, a barley allergy is an allergy just to the one grain. When people say they have a gluten allergy, they generally mean "celiac disease" which isn't an allergy exactly (i.e. someone with celiac cannot eat barley, but barley would show up negative on an allergy test unless the person were also allergic to barley in addition.)

My daughter is allergic to both barley and wheat, which have gluten, but not oatmeal, which also contains gluten... So you're probably allergic to that one grain, unless you were tested for all gluten-containing cereals... However, when shopping, 'gluten-free' foods are easily found at the regular grocery store (our local IGA) has a full line of products!
