Hi
Lauren is 8 and allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, seeds, fish etc. I was invited to a breakfast at her school for volunteers. She wanted to go and I explained that much of it would not be safe but she still wanted to go. I fed her before just to make sure she wasn't starving. She carefully looked around the offerings and made very good choices and even asked someone to check a label. I was so pleased that she didn't even ask about the "bread" type stuff as she knew it would be trouble.
It's nice to see her making good decisions in these types of environments. I always worry about the schoolyard and friends' houses but she seems to be really maturing and ensuring the risk is well controlled.

Kim, it's wonderful to hear how mature she is and how she is advocating for herself.

I think it's important to allow our kids to have experiences so that they can fine tune the skills they will need later on when it simply isn't an option to tag along.

You are doing a great job!
