Have you given soft tofu to your dairy allergic child without problems?

I was looking at soft tofus for a dip and a mousse recipe and most of them contain 'delta-glucono-lactone' as an ingredient. Anything with 'lact' makes me worry... but even President's choice brand have it and they don't list dairy as an ingredient, and I know they are very good about their labelling of allergens.

This is what is stated on the sunrise soya website...

Quote:

Although the word "lactone" sounds similar to "lactose" or "lactate", Glucono Delta Lactone or GDL is completely dairy-free. It is a derivative of corn starch which is used as a coagulant in the making of our tofu.

Yes, I have given her SunRise, Mori-Nu and President's Choice many times. She has had no trouble with any of them.

I particularly like the Mori-Nu because it comes in a tetra pack and I can keep it on hand in the cupboard for those tofu emergencies.

I noticed that Mori-Nu has a recipe site and I'm going to copy the Key Lime Pie recipe in the recipe forum. It sounds yummy!

I'm a vegan (also dairy-allergic) and never have come to a tofu that wasn't dairy-free.
