Last year I found the kind of advent calendars that I grew up with. The ones without chocolate at a Christian book store. I just happened to be driving by the book store and wonder if they would carry them and they did.

I was at Scholar's Choice Saturday and saw the Playmobile advent calendars. No food, just toys. They had different choices to choose from (boys and girls).

Here is a craft that creates little boxes that you hang on the tree out of matchboxes. very sweet but that's a lot of matches...

I thought I'd share the idea our daughter and I came up with.
I found a coloring page website that had a sheet of 6 gingerbread on it, 3 boys and 3 girls each. I printed four sheets and we coloured and cut them out. I bought at the dollar store a small cookie sheet to hang on the wall. I printed out a large boy and girl gingerbread cookie from the same website and we placed them at the top of the cookie sheet. (as we have a boy and a girl in our family). We will hang this on the wall and every day glue one 'cookie' on the 'cookie sheet'. We also cut out on a folded piece of paper a mixing bowl (and added a paper wooden spoon) , we glued the bowl to the bottom of the cookie sheet and this will hold the gingerbread cookie cut outs until we need them each day.
You could cut out a paper tree and make ornaments to hang each day etc.. , it was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon with our daughter.

Someone posted on the hyperboards forum that Guardian Angel Foods now has an advent calendar.

http://www.guardianangelfoods.com/

Their other products are delicious, so I'm sure this will be too.

FYI - Guardian Angels has an ad for their new calendars on the AL homepage - (that's probably where people are seeing).

Click on Allergicliving home on the red bar. Read ad on the side of page. It clicks through.

OK so I've now held a Guardian Angel Advent calendar. Very nicely made. Julie and her gang do such beautiful work.

We gave it to my neighbour's daughter just after Halloween. Unfortunately, dh was with me and said, "yes, E, that calendar will take you right up to Xmas."

At which point, 7-year-old (still wired from Halloween) starts into, "mommy, mommy is it almost Christmas? When's Christmas, can we get a tree." Dh and I slunk out the door, but ... the calendar was a hit.

I'm almsot 22 but never had an advent calendar when I was a kid. I get the newsletters from Guardian Angel and said, "soooooo mom, you gonna buy me an advent calendar??" haha! We'll see if I get a surprise :D
