I accidentally posted this email under shopping. It makes more sense here. My son has EE and we are doing food trials to find out what he is allergic to. All non invasive tests show no allergies, but the number of eosinophils in his esophagus (obtained from an upper endoscopy) defines a clear cut diagnosis. This is a tricky allergy as it is actually very hard to find the allergens. We are pretty sure dairy is one, but there are others that we haven't figured out. His symptoms are esophageal pain, similar to hearburn.

Has anyone heard of this and can anyone help me make some connections in Montreal?

Thank you so much.

Laurie

We believe my son has this condition. He is only 6 months old. The first 5 months were misery and at 5 months we was switched to the amino acid based formula....everything changed - he met the little boy we knew we had!! He was happy and nice to be around. Not screaming and arching, pinching, slapping, or biting!! He was amazing. We just started to try solids....what a mistake. He needs the calories but weve tried to start solids 4 times now and every time we take a huge step backwards and his progress made on the amino acid formula regresses significantly. We have not done the scope and biopsy yet, but we have done skin prick testing and it was all negative for everything,. We feel hopeless like there are no answers and that we've just been crazy over the past 6 months. This is horrible. I know we have a happy baby in there - but food makes him miserable and doctors dont really help right now. There have been a lot so far and we've only recently come across one who seems to have ideas and hopefully answers....i hiope so. My heart goes out to your family and children :) this is just misery to live with, esp b/c a mother knows when something is bothering her child and how horrible when its food. I just needed to get some of this off of my shoulders. ... There are good EE doctors at the Childrens hospital in Denver, CO. Some of the leading researchers.... quite a drive - but maybe worth it.

You are really having a hard time with your baby. I feel for you. Your instincts may be right, but you really need an endoscopy to diagnose. I don't know if they do that on babies. You don't mention where you live. Montreal? Another place in Canada. In addition to CO, I can say that there are some fabulous pediatric gastroenterologists at Boston Children's, Mt. Sinai in NYC, Columbia Presbyterian in NYC, NYU, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), Cincinnati Children's Hospital. I also can tell you if it is EE or and EG, Boston, Mt. Sinai, CHOP, and Cincy, have EE specialists. You need a ped, gastro who is really going to know what to do. Even the best don't always, but as they see EE more and more, they are more understanding. Also, I think Ottawa has some EE Drs. but I don't have any other information than that.

Good luck to you,

Laurie
