A reminder to people to scroll back up if they'd like to see Storm's letter and use it as a template to send to the gov't.

I can't find my Ana. Can. newsletter. Can anyone else help out Storm?

I'm doing a rare double posting - just to be sure people see this news ....

Hi everyone,

Please - we need your help - the proposed food allergen labelling regulations have officially stalled. Let's not let them just die. We need this law.

Allergic Living has set up a write-in campaign with a letter going directly to the top: the Prime Minister.

Please click the big pink Allergic Living logo to get back to our homepage. Click through to the write-in info from the box in the top righthand corner. Send your letter, let your support group know, let your family and friends know. If we can get enough letters in front of the Prime Minister, we really could turn this around.

Thanks in advance. If there are any questions - just let me know here, and either Susan or I will be happy to answer.

Thank you! Gwen

Gwen,
Is there something that we could print off and get signatures on?

-stephanie-, if you go to the website and view the letter, you can copy it and paste it into your computer. You could add comments and print it out if you chose to do so.

I suspect that Gwen felt this format would be the most user friendly and therefore would garner the greatest response.

We welcome your support. :)

Here is a link to write to your member of parliament. You can just click on their name or on the area you live and then just e-mail them directly. They are elected to represent us, and so they take our concerns seriously.

Almost 2000 letters have been generated to Stephen Harper...let's see if we can get to 5000 by the end of this weekend!

Thanks for that Pam.

Whoops - we're posting in 2 threads on the new write-in campaign, but ...

agreed on getting as many as we can in the next few days. Remember that you can ask family, e.g. grandparents, teachers, anyone interested in helping those with food allergies. The letter has a place to click that "I'm a friend or relative of someone with food allergies" (you don't see it in the preview version). So any and all are welcome to help out.

Gwen, excellent letter.

I assume it is acceptable that I posted the e-mail I received on another allergy forum -- exact quote of entire e-mail, including link. I'm trying to figure the best way to post this on face-book too.

I am extremely grateful to Allergic Living for the well thought out initiative to make our voices heard in regards to Food Allergy Label Law . This email write in campaign was very simple to do, only took a minute at most, and took the guess work out of sending an appeal for much needed changes to the Canadian Label Laws.

I quickly signed my name and then sent a link to all families and friends that I knew would want to help.

Thanks for all you do for the allergic community. It is truly inspirational and much appreciated.

I posted it on a forum that is mostly all Canadians. It's a site for parents, dealing with specific education issues. I'm not very active on the site, and not sure whether links are allowed or not - especially in OT, but I figured it was worth getting warned about breaking the rules if even one member saw it and sent an e-mail.

Today I checked, and the moderator of the site posted a thank you to me. She doesn't deal with allergies herself, but would love to see this law passed because it would make her feel better that she wasn't sending in a product that she thinks is safe to her child's school which has a peanut ban.

People do care and are willing to read labels.

Just wanted to share. :)

Good point AnnaMarie! I'm going to send an e-mail to my daycare provider. I hadn't thought to send her one!

Thanks everybody for continuing to find ways to spread the word.

We're almost at 3,300 – and counting. Amazing. Gwen

I don't know if this has happened yet to anyone else but my mother received an e-mail response from Harper's office that said the following:

"On behalf of the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, I would like to thank you for your recent e-mail. Please be assured that your comments have been noted and that they will receive due consideration from the Minister, who has already received a copy of your correspondence."

It was signed by L.A. Lavell, "Executive Correspondence Officer for the Prime Minster's Office"

I'm thinking maybe we need to be more aggressive? My mom said she is going to send a letter every day :P
I am on board for whatever you all think we should do in order for this issue to be taken seriously...

Was the labelling law enacted?

I really wish the labels also included "Made on equipment that manufactures tree nuts" or any main allergen.

Did this get passed? I searched the gov't website but can't find anything up to date.
