Enough with the peanuts!!
My kids can't even bring andy candy with chocolate to their school's Valentine celebration because of the fear that the chocolate may have … read more been affected by peanuts. When bag lunches are required, we can't do a PB&J. How do these "peanut averse" expect to survive? There might be popcorn with peanut oil at any shopping mall or car dealer! If they have problems with peanuts, don't eat them!! But don't drag the rest of us down.

The change comes four months after Northwest was acquired by Delta, which is based in Georgia, where peanuts are a huge cash crop. And Delta isn't shy about admitting support for home-state farmers is one reason for the change.

"Delta is an Atlanta company, and Georgia is an important producer of peanut products, therefore their policy supports their home state," the company said in a letter to Gildner's mom, Betsy Parish of Wayzata. Parish wrote to Delta last week to complain about the change.

Sigh - that's discouraging.

Interestingly, in AL's Winter issue comparison chart (extensively checked with the various airlines, btw), you'll see that Delta will create buffer zones for allergies if warned of ahead of time: http://www.allergicliving.com/documents/airlines.asp

Wonder if this reflects how much the salmonella scare has cut into peanut sales - e.g. giving them out is a type of promotion.

FYI, that newspaper is running this poll.

Poll: Which snack do you prefer while flying? Peanuts or pretzels?

Scroll down to see the poll on the right hand side.

Cast your vote for pretzels!
