As some of you are aware my son has been participating in a dairy desensitization program with his pediatric allergist. I thought that I would let you know that he is now taking 16 ml of milk everyday and is now eating things I would never have dreamed of. He is eating mini go's and chapmans ice cream sandwiches. I would not yet say he has been cured of his dairy allergy but we are getting very close.

Stephanie,

How did you know your son was a good candidate for the study? My MIL is pushing us to try something like that for our son, but I feel his allergy is too severe. How did your son react to skin prick testing and/or RAST tests?

My son's RAST test results are +14 and skin prick testing showed a wheal larger than the histamine (I forget the actual size but the reddness surrounding the wheal was over 4 cm's).

BMTB,
This is something you need to choose and have no pressure to participate. Although I am amazed at our results it has not been without stress and worry.
My son's last two rast tests were 35 and then the following year were 100. His allergies have been significant. The studies that have been done in the past have involved children with severe past histories.
Good luck to you

Is there a minimum age they recommend before trying this?

Diana,
I am not sure. My son was four when he started in January and just turned five. The studies that I have read did not list ages of the children.
