My son is only 11, so I haven't even thought that far into the future.

My half-a-step-sister's son is allergic to insects. He works out in the middle of nowhere. Environmetal testing, living of the land, dropped from a helicopter, literally, in the middle of nowhere. He refuses to carry an epi-pen because he says it will just prolong his suffering -- nobody could get to him in time. I told his mom, that makes sense -- except when he's in the city. I think he now carries one when he's in cities. I also let her know about the immunotherapy. She had never heard of it, and was going to let him know it was available. (He's in his 30's, and it have never been mentioned to him.)

I may consider it for my son when he's older. But, for right now, there's no benefit for him.

I recently found a good detailed explanation of when insect sting testing is needed and when it's not. It's part of a larger article titled "Bee Sting Allergy." I thought others here might find this helpful.
