Hi,

Glad you took the step to register. You are right about anaphylaxis awareness in Alberta schools, some are great, others not so much.

March 16TH 2010, Anderson Hayden MacDonald put forth motion 504 "Be it resolved that the Legislative Assembly urge the government

to introduce legislation requiring all school boards to

establish and maintain an anaphylactic policy that includes

strategies to reduce exposure to anaphylactic causative agents,

information on life-threatening allergies, annual first aid

training on dealing with life-threatening allergies, and a

requirement for every school principal to develop a plan for

each pupil affected by an anaphylactic allergy, including the

maintenance of a file for each anaphylactic pupil."

It lost with totals: For – 9 Against – 23
23 against basic strategies to keep students safe! :verymad

For the motion:Anderson, Hayden, MacDonald, Calahasen, Horner, Pastoor, Chase, Lindsay and Taft.
Against the motion:Amery, Fritz, McFarland, Bhullar, Horne, Olson, Campbell, Jablonski, Prins,Dallas, Jacobs, Quest, Danyluk, Knight, Rodney, Denis, Leskiw, VanderBurg, Doerksen, Lukaszuk, Vandermeer, Elniski and Marz.

Susan, did it say what on earth was their logic/thinking that brought them to the conclusion of the 9-23 vote??????? The recomendations seem pretty basic and standard. Scary that a few close minded individuals (lazy if you asked me) have the power to make decisions which could potentially result in a tragic end for a child.
WOW!!!

Oh my...that's appalling! I'm sorry that your children had to witness this and I'm glad that you brought it to the attention of your MLA. :huggy

Hmmm, last provincial election in Alberta was 2008, so the next one will have to be before March 3RD 2012? :swing

I continue to be more and more appalled, the letter sent was very well written. The behavior of these adults/caucus members is horrifying especially given the topic at hand. What is it exactly that they don't 'get' about life threatening allergies. :verymad

They should be reminded Karma is a B_____!! Ask Joel Stein!! (not that I ever ever ever would wish allergies on anyone's child regardless of who they are or what they have done.....but as I just read today you just never know who in your family may be affected one day by allergies............)
