I am repainting my kitchen and have run into some trouble. My husband bought killz odourless primer yesterday thinking it would be better for my allergies because of less smell. A few minutes into painting I started sneezing and my eyes ran. We stopped painting immediately and I took an extra aerius. I went out for a few hours to get away from the house but as soon as I got home I started sneezing uncontrollably again. We bought a different paint and I am not as bad but my eyes are red and I look like I have been crying for days. Does anyone know of any "safer" paints to paint the house with in the future? My kitchen is just the beginning of many years of remodeling work to be done on my house.

Thank you for the reply. I stopped using the paint I had and went to Benjamin Moore for the Aura paint which was one of the ones recommended in the article. They advised me to get the Natura which is VOC free. It cost $10.00 more than the brand that I was allergic to but was well worth the cost not only for my health but it was a much better paint. It was thicker, easier to use and did not smell!

I just had my living-room, dining room and foyer painted. We used General Paint Z-coat which has zero VOC's. No smell. I had chosen a light colour. I was told that the paint hasno VOC's or smell but when a tint is added there may be some odour. Something to keep in mind.
What colours are people using? I went with filtered sunlight and it looks light and cheerful.

LOVE Benjamin Moore Natura. I never used to paint because it made me sick. But I used Natura to paint my room a few months ago and I loved it! Totally worth the extra cost :)
