Steve Roy, a top hairdresser in Toronto, is running the "Mane Event" this Sunday the 24th at the Solo Bace salon on Yonge St.. It's in support of HIV/AIDS kids and their families through the Teresa Group.

So book a great haircut or blowdry today and help out a wonderful cause.

I've known Steve since Elm Street magazine days, a great guy who has raised thousands for the Teresa Group. What's incredible is that this is now his 13th year - anyone who knows about fundraising knows that takes stamina. (He has a very fulltime job.)

Here are the details:

The 13th Annual Mane Event Raises Funds for HIV/AIDS
Sunday October 24 @ 10am – 4pm

Toronto – Give back to the community with a day of personal pampering at some of Toronto’s best salons!
On Sunday, October 24, 2010 from 10 AM to 4 PM, in partnership with the Teresa Group, Solo Bace Salon
(18 Yorkville Ave.) April Maloney Salon (178 Avenue Rd.) and Lift Salon + Spa (90 Adelaide St. E.) will be raising funds to help those affected by HIV/AIDS.

This one-day event includes raffle with prizes valued at over $3,000 and silent auction with items on display at Lift Salon + Spa. A brick wall of compassion recognizes contributors and plenty of refreshments and desserts will be served! Each participant will receive a $60 gift bag as a token of appreciation.

Steve Roy from Solo Bace Salon started this event 13 years ago and has successfully created awareness for the cause. The event has previously raised over $270,000 for the charity’s Family Support Program, providing necessities such as school supplies, clothes, diapers and baby formula to local families in
need. Support groups for pre-natal issues regarding HIV-AIDS, new moms living with HIV or children/youth affected by HIV and AIDS.

“I am afraid that if I tell my friend, she might tell the whole school, then everyone will be afraid that they will catch it…” Age 11, girl, living with, affected by and bereaved from HIV/AIDS

Participate, donate and feel great!

The Teresa Group is Canada’s oldest community-based charitable organization specifically serving children and youth affected by HIV/AIDS. Through innovative programs and services, the Teresa
Group assists 750 children from over 380 families affected by HIV/AIDS.
