Hi,
As a mom of a peanut allergic child I do a lot of home baking. Unfortunately it's hard to find safe cake sprinkles, coloured sugars and icing tints that don't contain or may contain peanuts. A friend of mine is also on the lookout for cake sprinkles/decorative sugars that don't contain peanuts/tree nuts or egg. Has anyone seen safe products?

I love Wilton products but unfortunately they may contain. I'd love to make some holiday cookies with some flair that we can all eat. Any ideas? I'm in SW Ontario.

Hi Canuckmommy,

At Sobey's I buy CAKE MATE sprinkles, they are made my McCormick Canada (peanut free company).
Sugar, cornstarch, Caruba wax (don't have my glasses on right now and can't read properly the name of the wax) and colour

Also at Sobey's I buy food colouring - I also buy Club House made by McCormick Canada. They come in a tiny box with a small red, yellow, blue and green inside.

Water, prpolyene glycol, colour

I don't buy icing but make my own, after i mix it I spoon it into tiny zip lock bags, cut a teeeeeny corner out and use it as an icing bag to decorate cookies. :D

You could also do your own colours with blueberries, beets and other fruits and veggies.

Thanks for the replies.
BC2007 -- I'll check out the Cake Mate brand. Thx.
Hiebs -- using natural dyes is a great idea but I just don't have the time to experiment over the holidays and would prefer using colours that aren't as moist/liquid so they won't water down the icing. But thanks for the ideas! :)

Dd (and I  ) went to a birthday party recently. They made tiedyed cupcakes and let the girls decorate them with CakeMate Scribblers. http://tinyurl.com/2bgl32g

(white cake-divide into 4 small batches. Colour each batch separately and place a spoon full of each colour into the cupcake liners.)

Unfortunately I have a sick 11 year old and haven't been able to get out to the food store. Once he's better (hopefully today) I'll head out. :)
