Dear Registrant,

Please find below a press release issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to alert consumers that may have purchased recalled 14-count Quaker Chewy Granola Bars Value Packs that may have sold in Co-op retail stores, despite the previous recall notice by Quaker on November 24, 2010. This is a limited recall affecting only Co-Op retail locations and no other retail customers in Canada are affected.

Anyone who purchased this product after the recall was announced is advised to inspect it closely and/or return it to the retailer for a refund.

ALLERGY ALERT - UNDECLARED PEANUTS IN CERTAIN MISPACKED QUAKER BRAND CHEWY GRANOLA BARS VALUE PACKS SOLD AT CO-OP STORES

OTTAWA, December 22, 2010 : The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning people with allergies to peanuts not to consume certain Quaker brand Chewy Granola Bars Value Packs described below.

The affected product, Quaker brand Chewy Granola Bars Value Pack, 14 bars, 364 g, bears UPC 0 55577 10742 3. All lot codes are affected by this alert.

These Quaker brand Chewy Granola Bars Value packs may contain Quaker brand Dipps granola bars that contain peanuts. The individual granola bars within these value packs are correctly labelled and declare peanuts, where present.

The affected Quaker brand Chewy Granola Bars Value Packs which were previously recalled on November 24, 2010, may have been distributed, after the original recall, throughout Co-op retail stores located in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario.

There has been one reported reaction associated with the consumption of this product.

Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to peanuts.

Federated Co-operatives Ltd., Saskatoon, SK, is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

I really have to add a WHAT THE...!!!! :evil:
Do companies just ignore the recall notices???
I'm actually angry. :verymad Imagine how many grandparents, schools, churches, community centers now have these bars in their cupboards. Between Safeway still selling them and the Co-op there must be hundreds more of these boxes out there. :banghead

No kidding- what the ...?! Just how many chances do ya get? Or risks - depending on what side of the fence you're on.

Voluntary effectiveness???? Apparently the monitors need to do more monitoring. :frightened :verymad as well :banghead
