Anyone out there thinking about quitting smoking in the next year? February 02 will be my 10th anniversary. Hard...but so happy I did...and I'm thinking of something great to do to celebrate.
Here is a story very worthwhile of a read http://www.nationalpost.com/Barb+Tarbox ... story.html
Quote:
When Health Canada tested possible new warnings for cigarette packages, a deathly image of Barb Tarbox, the lung cancer patient who used her last months to speak out about the perils of smoking, was rated by focus groups as one of the most compelling. The government, however, shelved the whole plan to replace existing warnings with fresh ones.

"Make no mistake, the minister's announcement is damage control for a government who puts its own interests - and the interests of powerful insiders - ahead of the health and safety of Canadians."

She was a brave woman to put her story out there. She wanted her story to serve as an example for those who might be tempted to start smoking.

I started smoking when I was 12 :freak (thought it made me seem grown up)
I quite many times but the time that stuck was during the Ice Storm of '98. There was so much going on that I didn't have time to think about it.

Me too! My kids and DH were such a support when I first quit. I only tried once. Thank goodness! That was one of the reasons I never started again...I never want to go through those first few weeks again. I did the patch for a couple of weeks (loved those dreams... I went for motorbike rides without a helmet...in vivid colours!!!...whew!) but unfortunately developed an allergic reaction to the patches so went cold turkey. Hard then but don't even miss it now. :banana :happydance

It was so different back then when I started. We didn't even think of consequences regarding our health and they only cost about 60 cents, and everyone was doing it.

Saved lotsa cash and sure am alot healthier too!

Good for you both. Not a smoker myself, but have seen lots of friends go back to it after quitting. And now hearing about people getting lung cancer. What a great thing you have done for your health!

I carried a pack of cigarettes around with me and when I got the urge I would hold one up and ask myself who had more power in my life, me or that little tube of leaves.

I gave myself permission to have just one if I truly believed I was gonna ax murder anyone. Fortunately, it never came to that!

My personality is such that I want something more if I think I can't have it.
