Those earrings really do work, our DD has had them in for a few days with absolutely no problem. :happydance

Did those Bio-Care earrings work out for longer than a few days??

When my dd had pierced ears before they got so infected that she had to remove the earrings. We tried many types including 14K gold - interesting to read of others having problems with that.

@Susan - did your daughter have plastic earrings for the actual piercing? How did they work out? Where did you get them done?

Thanks!

Yes, she got the medical plastic earrings with blue rhinestones at Ardene's. I wanted to go somewhere that does it a lot, because they're used to kids. http://www.ardene.com/eng/piercing/PiercingProducts.cfm

It orked out well but after the healling period, she decided she didn't want pierced ears and has let them close up.

Thanks Susan! :goodidea We had called numerous places and not one had the plastic. I think that is her best bet as this is the third try for pierced ears. Ardene's website has such good info about the piercings as well.

Wish us luck! Maybe I'll be :bouncygreen by the time we get there.

An aside, green bouncy dude looks really funny when stuck with his arms up (and no sign of coffee cup) - kind of like a green reindeer :rofl

Good to get all the info here. . . 6yo DD is asking to get her ears pierced. She's allergic to nickel like me, but hopefully gold and sterling silver will be ok for when the time comes. Maybe we'll let her for her bday.

Fingers crossed that 1 week and no sign of problems at all. The first time there was sign quickly; the second time took longer. Very happy with the plastic earrings from Ardenes!

Yay for your daughters. Great small box presents in their future. :banana

Re the ear allergy comparisons: I discovered as a teen who'd had her ears pierced that I reacted to 14K gold. Still do - gets all raw inflamed the few times I've tried.

However, absolutely zero issues with surgical steel or silver.

They say that if you're reacting to 14K gold, you're probably alalergic to the gold itself and not the nickle in it.

1 month and my daughter's pierced ears are still good :happydance

For those who have had problems with earrings, how long did you wait to change the earrings?

She will have to take them out soon for soccer but I think she should put the plastic ones back in since there is no problem. I would like her to wait to change given the problems the first two piercings. (this was the third time for the ear lobe piercings - thankfully they keep piercing close to the same spot...)

@ Susan - although your daughter let her piercing close sometimes they can be 'reopened'. My mom did that 30 years later!

I found these at Zellers!

Look at these: http://hypoallergenicfindings.com/newplastic.html
You can make your own earrings/convert other earrings...
