I have had an allergic reaction to Dextrose IVs. It wasn't Anaphalyxis though. This is before my Corn allergy became that severe.

I wouldn't put too much stock into anything the respondant to Rosie says. One of the things she and her editor reference is a quack cure that has no scientific evidence of helping a person with food allergies. On the same page as the Helminthic Therapy, they reference NAET and that is definitely a dangerous quack cure that has caused people with food allergies to risk their lives.

I really wonder about how "rare" Corn allergies really are. I talk to just as many people who have severe reactions to peanuts and nuts as I do with severe reactions to Corn. However, because people don't know all the different products Corn is in they don't realize they are having a food allergy reaction to Corn.

If someone starts listing hundred plus common packaged foods and non-food products that they react to, I tell them to get skin prick tested for a Corn allergy. They all end up with a positive result and only feel better when they start lowering their Corn intake (since it is impossible to avoid Corn 100% in the US).

I personally don't think Corn allergies are rare. I think they are purposely undiagnosed because it would be expensive for businesses to bother to list that their products contain Corn.

I went through my old files and found this article about Dr. Theron Randolph and his treatment after trying to bring awareness to corn allergy:

<<<In 1944, Dr. Randolph began a private practice and became a member of the staff of Northwestern University Medical School. He boldly announced that he did not follow the familiar skin tests favored by the other orthodox allergists, but concentrated on food ingestion tests. When Dr. Randolph made his morning rounds, some medical students asked to accompany him. His quiet, dignified manner attracted inquisitive students. By following Dr. Randolph, the students became involved in a quest to find the demonstratable cause of the patient's illness. Common foods (such as corn) turned out to be the most frequent causes, but first the food had to be unmasked and avoided.

This courageous, indomitable, single-minded clinician followed his convictions in the 1950s and 1960s, at great personal cost. In 1949, he was invited to testify before the Food and Drug Administration in Washington, DC. He requested that all food ingredients, especially corn, cane, and beet sugar, be listed on all processed food. After returning to Chicago, he could no longer mention his medical school affiliation in his articles; a major food manufacturer suddenly cancelled his research grant, which had previously been approved for extension; and he was terminated from the staff of Northwestern University Medical School, "as a pernicious influence on medical students".>>>

Corn allergies are increasingly being discussed in doctors and pediatricians’ offices.

But corn is still not considered a top allergen, as corn allergy is something that we haven’t decided to officially start counting.

At least not yet
