Today, on Dave Rutherfords talk radio, Minister of Education Dave Hancock is speaking with Dave. (if you want you can listen at a later date in the audio vault on 630 ched, but only for a few months I think) He is toting out there new plans of new and improved schools here in Alberta....good thing cause we got people coming again. And....don't forget the teachers are gonna want to talk about raises again right away, cause their contract will be up again, right away. They got lots the last time....anyone else get a big raise during the last recession? Saskatchewan teachers are in talks now.

Health and education......the big topics always....cause that's where our $ goes.....and politicians. School boards here are saying they are having to lay off hundreds (Edmonton Public) because of budget cuts.

I am learning the ropes here. Awhile ago, I sent my mla an e-mail requesting an appointment. I received an e-mail back saying he was very busy
Quote:
calendar is full for the next few weeks – We are looking at early June but I will get back to you with a date and time.
I wanted to give him some ribbons and allergy monster plus touch base on you know what......I did stop in and leave some....anyway...today I became aware of some stuff and called the local office to find out about it and mentioned that I was drafting a letter to all the mla's again as we spoke and that I understood that he was busy (running for Premier, you know).
Upon hanging up, I thought "Oh dear, I hope that his right hand person there didn't think I did not want an appointment now (because I am e-mailing) so I called right back, and got a time and date in June.......

Lesson learned - be persistant and keep asking

Oh, I wish kids had dials so we could turn them back for a day....although I enjoy them so now at this stage of the game, I miss those days.

On another notable funny story, right now as I chat, I was all ready for my appointment to see my MLA here. As I am stepping out the door at like 5 minutes to 9 the Alberta Gov calls and he's not available. I hate it when I'm all geared for something and it fizzles. Ok, this is not a good story, but I needed to share....and I feel better already.
I guess I'll stop in again...his office is right by the gym Dd & I go to.

ha ha. I'd bet he was golfing again....it was a beautiful day.

Things are very quiet here right now on the provincial political front. It's like if nobody moves.....nobody gets hurt. I guess the runners are all raising money for their campaigns and laying real low.

Ha Ha! My relative from Camrose just told me I should go visit cuz Horner's been campaigning there. I wonder where Griffith is? I just saw Mar's big bus rolling down the Yellowhead the other day. They are all out and about. Here's an article http://www.calgaryherald.com/business/T ... story.html (just happens to be written by the same fellow that wrote up that article about motion 504) http://www2.canada.com/edmontonjournal/ ... 0c330b&p=2

Well, I don't know what I'm to do about any of the above, Susan (although I am a member of the Legion as well) but I did find this http://hornerforalberta.ca/policy-framework and there is a place for comments, so, ya know......

Sabrina's Law in Alberta
Would like to see you again regarding this issue but in the meantime, .please do come and read up what I've got going on Alllergic Living's Forum. My most active threads relating to this issue are under Advocacy and Accommodations. I chat under the name Alberta Advocate and have invited some other stakeholders to do the same. because I don't think it 's working very well the way it is.Still.

I wonder if all the candidates for Premier have a website? I suppose so....I must look into that.

On another note....did you know that all of the premiers in Canada are gathering soon? So, here in Alberta, it will be a good trip I guess for Mr. Stelmach and his bride on their way out. I don't understand we bother to send him....other than for everyone there to say so long. Kinda like when Alberta Education sent the guy that was leaving to the Frontenac in Quebec City. :dungetit I could be wrong on this one....all I saw was the paperwork. http://www.allergen-nce.ca/documents/QCProgram2010.pdf He went to work somewhere else like....the next day.

I have no idea who Christine is....I guess she works for his campaign....someone should tell her he is NOT the minister of anything right now.

Thank you for your comments!
Sabrina's Law - Michele, thank you for raising awareness about this important issue. As the Minister of Advanced Education and Technology, Doug continues to connect with Alberta schools about important issues.

Ok, I did.

Christine, I believe Doug is not a minister of anything right now...as he is running for premier and had to resign those positions....but I thank him for voting FOR the protection of anaphylactic children in Alberta schools back on March 15, 2010 (check the Alberta Hansard) unlike the many other P.C.'s that day in the legislative building.

It is easy to see that a law is needed to force Alberta school boards/administration to take some responsibility in this area. Just go look and see how many school boards require annual training for staff to recognize and react to a life-threatening allergic reaction, let alone require them to have first aid training.....safe and caring??? Seems to me that even the basics are lacking but I would hope that maybe he would change that if he were elected Premier.

The talk with the Edmonton Public is about junk food and Morinville kids can go to a public school now.

Anyone else have anything interesting?
