With the new nutritional policies being implemented in Ontario the vending machines are now suppose to have nutritional snacks. Last week my son reported that his high school had salted almonds, salted cashews and granola bars with peanuts/ nuts for sale.

Once the school was advised they contacted the vendor to have them removed. I notified the board office as well so that other schools who have allergic children do not sell these items.

Parents might want to contact their schools to see what is now being sold in the vending machines.

Last year our high school also removed some of the products from the vending machines. Sadly, between all of the allergies amongst students will anything healthy be left in the machine?

At our high schools, there are vending machines with food. The cafeteria is not safe for tree nut or peanut allergies (have never asked about others) so the vending machine is the only option if they need food while at school. Reminder for me to remind my daughter to pack a few snacks for last minute practices/activities.
