Recognizing the increasing prevalence of food allergies and the implications in the school environment, State Representative Chris Nybo (R-Lombard) was honored by the Illinois Association of School Nurses (IASN) for being the chief sponsor of legislation allowing school nurses access to epinephrine, a life-saving medication for severe allergic reactions.

The “Friends of School Nurses Award” was presented to Nybo Wednesday night at annual educational program and business meeting of the DuPage Valley Division of IASN. This annual award recognizes and highlights legislative action that puts students first and incorporates parents and school nurses into the process.

“This is a critical measure that now allows our school nurses the resources to be proactive in an instance that could mean life or death,” Nybo said in a prepared statement. “This legislation is about putting our students first, and I thank the Illinois Association of School Nurses for all they do to help keep our children with life-threatening food allergies safe when they are at school.”
