Thanks, Fiona. After our first scare with what we thought at the time might have been an anaphylactic reaction (turned out to be violent stomach bug... on Halloween of all nights, after trick or treating), my husband and I are in a whole different place and I've been thinking about having this conversation with my four year old son. Like others, I've used the "very very sick, go to the hospital" explanation but he's been asking about death a lot lately. I'd rather he hears it from us, and so thank you so much for giving me the courage and the words.
