The man on the bench in the courtroom that day, District Judge Gary McKenrick, said he's in a tough spot, but he does not agree any rights were violated.
"There are no absolute rights," he said. "You balance rights all the time."

Very interesting how different things are in different places.

Work places and workers seem to have way more protection than children in some places. Like here in Alberta schools. and that is because that is how the laws are written imo & btw...I wish there were a eye rolling guy on twitter.

I changed jobs 3 months ago. I was in a stressful job whereas now my job is low-stress. The interesting part which is relevant to this story is that I am not bothered by scents as much now! Stress down, sensitivity to scents down. I still don't like the smell of them but they don't make me nauseous and dizzy as they did before. Strange eh?

Nothing is strange to me when it comes to stress and how a body feels. And I am glad for you walooet....living with a life-threatening allergy in the family is enough stress for anybody imo. :huggy

I had a co-worker several years ago who had allergies to scents. I witnessed her have several reactions. The worst was when a workman came in to move some sprinkler heads in our area. He open the can of solvent (some sort of plumbing stuff) and she reacted immediately! :frightened

The worst for me is when they are airborne too. Students would spray Axe down the hall and it would make me sick in the classroom. Others complain about the boys who forget to wear deodorant but for me, while body odour is not pleasant, it does not make me physically ill as does Axe etc.

Regarding this story, I would be curious just how much scent those women were wearing who were banned. If it was a reasonable amount then I don't agree with the ban. Unfortunately, the "reasonable amount" is obviously different for each of us.

I have Multiple Chemical Sensitivities and have noticed that in the past several years there are more and more products on the market that are heavily scented. Everyone is so fragranced up that they don't realize how strong they smell. Scented laundry products are the worst for me. The scent/chemicals linger long after they leave a room.
I am happy to hear they excluded the parents to protect the employee, and that they are taking her sensitivities seriously. It is unfortunate that the parents were not made aware. I am sure they will be reviewing the procedure.

I have to plug my nose just walking down that aisle at the store! Same for the fragrance counters... :banghead
