This article contains interviews with Dr. Scott Sicherer, a leading allergy researcher and author of the new "Complete Peanut Allergy Handbook", as well as the Calif. doc who did the well-known study on kissing and allergic reactions: http://www.ohio.com/mld/beaconjournal/l ... 643270.htm

Good article--but I'm disappointed that they chose "less than 1/2 of a peanut" to illustrate how little is needed for a fatal reaction. The smallest measured amount that someone has had a reaction to is considerably smaller than that---can't remember for sure but isn't it something like 1/100th of a peanut? and that isn't to say that people can't react to a smaller amount of protein. i'm just concerned that the general reader might think...less than 1/2 of a peanut...well worrying about *trace* amounts is just going overboard.

I read between 1/7000 and 1/70,000. I too thought that the 1/2 a peanut comment promoted the idea that trace amounts were not enough to worry about. Dangerous info in the hands of people just diagnosed and not aware how little it takes. Also, misinforms the public about how little it really does take for some people.

It's a step. Most people don't even think that eating a peanut butter sandwich next to you can affect you. If they go to specific, people are probably all think we are freaking out over nothing. At least, if they make more plausible for their brain, maybe the message will get through to a large part of the population.
