That's why I haven't given them to my kids. As delicious as they are, I don't want my little ones thinking all almond cookies are ok, and be offered something that they shouldn't have.

CFIA Fair Labelling division sent my concern to a specialist. We should have an update sometime next week.

thank you for addressing this SpaceCanada, I agree with Becky. Very confusing for not just our kids but the adults we are trying to teach how to keep our kids safe...how do you explain now that 'some' form of nuts are/maybe safe. That just opens a can of worms, if it is called nuts, then it is not safe.

According to the CFIA representative I've been in touch with, who has been fantastic, their department in Ontario is involved because that's where Dare's facilities are. Due to the nature of the non-compliance of the label, we should have answers soon. (They are reviewing it right now.) I will keep you all up to date as I get more information! :)

I am hoping this ends in our favour! I'm optimistic, as CFIA agrees that the label is confusing. Keep your fingers crossed!

Thanks spacecanada!!!
Glad they are taking this seriously, it really is in my eyes very confusing statement.

Just stopping by to let you know that I haven't forgot about this. Earlier this week I e-mailed the CFIA representative in Alberta and she said there have been no updates from Ontario yet. She will let me know as soon as she hears something. This is taking longer than she (and I) initially hoped. I have to wonder what's going on... did it get put on the back burner or did I open a messy tin of worms? (I'm hoping it's the latter, so we can have fair labelling.)

I'm also wondering if people who are allergic to almonds (like me), would also react to extract from an apricot pit? They seem to be in the same family, and almonds are considered tree nuts, so apricot pits may be too, albeit unofficially because people don't normally eat apricot pits. (I did mention this in my initial e-mail to the CFIA.) Could anyone weigh in on this?

I am most annoyed with Dare over this! A few years ago, I contacted Dare because they stated "may contain dairy" on every candy label even though the only candies that contained dairy were processed by another company for Dare and not actually in their facility so at the time, there was no risk of dairy contamination!

(Now they 'say' they make the candies)

I used to trust Dare and feel like they "got it", but now, not to much. :banghead

I e-mailed the CFIA rep yesterday and she e-mailed the person in Ontario. They are still dealing with Dare to resolve the issue. I can only wonder what's going on... She assures me that I will be notified as soon as things have been resolved. And I will post the conclusion here as soon as I have it!

Though this is not specifically about the almond cookie it is about the Dare maple and the lemon cookie, these are two kinds of cookies that would sometimes be my weakness! I have eaten them for years. The other day I had a moment of weakness and bought both! I had to do that mom taxi routine so I thought "just one of each would be Soooo good" Under the category of READ, READ, READ! I had already taken one bite when that little voice said "look at the ingredients". It was out of my mouth before I even had the flavour identified! They now both contain coconut oil. Not May, it says they do contain! :frightened
A good reminder to myself to read every time.

paige - although allergic to coconut, my daughter has been okay with coconut oil. Are there different kinds of coconut oil?? Just wondering if she has been lucky so far...
