New research adds to the growing body of evidence suggesting that there's a link between allergies and reduced risk of a serious type of cancer that starts in the brain. This study suggests the reduced risk is stronger among women than men, although men with certain allergy profiles also have a lower tumor risk.

Correlation or causality ? I'd say more correlation or coîncidence. It's amazing the amount of study they come up with that have no link to each other. When I had cancer, that's what my oncologist told me. You have to be able to see the difference between a real medical link and some random correlation that just happen to indiquate something but if you do the study over and over, you'll see there is actually no link.

What's interesting to me is that I've asked scientists before about anti-IgE meds. - Are we sure we don't need IgE - for something? (And I do realize lots of people don't have it.)

They usually answer that maybe it would help if you were going to a jungle teeming with microbes and parasites, but otherwise ...

This suggests - maybe there may actually be a role for it, even in our hyper-clean society.

Thanks for posting, Mary. I find it quite interesting.
