On flights operated by Air Canada, people who are allergic to dogs will be able to request special accommodation. By giving 48 hours’ notice before flying, dogs will either be banned from the cabin, or a five-row buffer zone will be established to separate the allergic traveler from any dogs. This is essentially the same rule that already applies to people allergic to cats, which was established in a CTA decision in 2012. Even if less than 48 hours’ notice is given, the airline must do its best to accommodate.

Do you know if passengers with animal allergies have to file a GP signed health form with Air Canada to receive accommodation?

yes they have a length form for many reasons of which allergies is one
then they keep it on file

we were advised that WE could be bumped if the crew decided the allergens would be considered unsafe (need to look into this)
we were also told that a buffer zone would be created (for treenuts/peanuts - we didn't even say anything about environmental) however the crew didn't speak to the rows around us and people happily snacked on whatever they had brought on board; visible snacks to us included granola bars, trail mix, whole foods take-out and yup someone with a bag of mixed nuts.

SpaceCanada, belatedly, Air Canada has not said yet whether they'll require the Fitness for Air Travel Form - but presumably they will, since they require one for cats.

Thanks, Gwen. I wasn't sure if they required the form for cats too. Good to know.

If you request the food buffer it is for ALL treenuts and peanuts. So if you are only allergic to peanuts you would be asked not to eat almonds etc.
