I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism (Graves' Disease) over 10 years ago. I never took Propyl-Thyracil though. I was given one dose of radioactive iodine (after several uptake tests). This didn't cause any allergies. Since then I take Synthroid to treat hypothyrodism (no allergies there either).

I did some research and there are three alternatives to treating hyperthyroidism:

1. radioactive iodine
2. surgery
3. antithyroid drugs (such as Propyl-Thyracil)

The only allergy info I could find is: "Antithyroid drugs occasionally produce side effects, most commonly a skin rash or itching. These are allergic reactions and occur in about 5 percent of patients and disappear when the medication is discontinued."

You could try contacting the Thyroid Foundation of Canada for more info: http://www.thyroid.ca/English/Contacts.html
