I'm gonna let Storm answer this one, because when I tried what I thought should work (pasting the URL that showed up in the Properties -- http://static.graphics.com/data/169/1science8-thumb.gif), I got a "403 Forbidden" error.

I think this is a site that doesn't allow direct linking. You might have to set up your own page at photobucket like Storm suggested.

K.

Susan and Karen,

That website (gif.com) does not seem to consistently allow direct linking... so sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I tried a few times and it worked for a little while and when I went back to my message, it stopped linking.

Actually, you did everything right. :D It's just that particular website that doesn't link. You inserted the codes correctly. Image

That was a real mind challenging adventure. I was lost and confused at "click on image under subject." For those as confused as I was...it is in the line right of "message body" which icludes the bold and quote options.

what is meant by "make sure there are no spaces between the "img" functions and the URL"? My daughter helped me follow the steps but the image didn't show up - what did I do wrong or am I missing a step somewhere?

I think I'm confused (hey, I know I'm confused!!) from the very beginning - do you set up a reply and then reduce it and go to the web site for the GIF's? or do you go there first and somehow copy it and then post a reply? Hey, I'm not computer friendly here, I'm lucky I'm even computer tolerant!

There are different ways. You could go to the GIF website first, copy and URL of the gif and then go to the forum and paste into your message. Or you could open another window (Explorer or Netscape) by clicking on Start (assuming you don't have a Mac). That way you can go back and forth between the two websites (the GIFs one and this forum).

This is the GIF you wanted to insert. Firstly, you pasted the URL into the Subject title. It won't work that way. You have to paste it into the Message Body. Secondly, you have to insert the URL between these two codes: . Leave no spaces in between the URL and these codes. The best way to ensure this is to click on the IMG box just below the subject line of your message, paste the URL and then click on the IMG box again.

Thanks Storm - I'll try it again!!! Of course, I'll have to copy down every step or I'll never remember what I did (providing it works!). Thanks for your help - much appreciated.

Pepper, here's an idea for you.

On the post by Storm that has the picture you want, click on "quote" as if you are going to quote from her reply.

Then, scan down the post that shows up on the screen for you to type into.

after this part:

(the GIFs one and this forum).

and before this part:

This is the GIF you wanted to insert.

is the exact line that you need to type to get your little pepper picture. LOL now I get it.

Or you can just right click on the image of the pepper in my message and click on Properties and then copy the Address (URL). Follow the rest of the directions in my first post.
