1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1 600 g bag of Europe's Best frozen strawberries, thawed a bit (or 4-5 cups fresh berries)

1. Combine sugar and water in saucepan and heat until sugar melts. Let cool at bit.
2. In a blender, combine sugar water and berries. Blend, moving from lowest setting up to maximum setting, until it's a thick liquid.
3. Put in your ice cream maker (we use the Cuisinart electric one) for 15-20 minutes or until creamy.
4. Serve right away (it'll be pretty soft) or put in your freezer.

You'll have to take it out about 15-20 minutes before serving to let it soften a bit. Very tasty and healthy! And I'm sure you could use just about any berry or fruit with this recipe.

K.

is the Cuisinart electric ice cream maker one that you just put the bowl in the freezer or something like that? I've heard that some ice cream makers require special ingredients... can't remember what. I'm thinking of getting us a maker, but haven't done much research yet. Any and all tips/info would be appreciated! I look forward to trying this recipe, that's for sure. : )

The one we have looks like this:

No special ingredients needed. You put the "freezer bowl" in the freezer for about 24 hours, and then once you've mixed up your ingredients, get the bowl out of the freezer, put the mixture in, put the bowl on top of the base, put the mixing tool in and the plastic top on, and turn the base on, usually for 20 minutes or so. What results is usually like a slushy (or very soft ice cream if milk-based), and then you put that in the freezer.

It's actually great for making slushies and daiquiris and such too.

We've had ours for years and it still works great. I've also seen double ones (wider base that fits two "freezer bowls").

Thanks Karen. I will definitely look into getting one. Rice Dream's frozen dessert is good, but it would be nice to make some different flavours from what they have.
Thanks again!
