When we were visiting the US recently, we bought some Kellogg's Crispix for my son. None of his allergens were listed in the ingredients("malt" was one of the ones listed). He ate the whole box with no problems. Now, home in Candada.. I see that Crispix contains "malted barley". He has a barley allergy (hives) - reacted to infant barley cereal and barley grains in a soup. So.. I contacted Kelloggs USA and they tell me that the "malt" in their Crispix is indeed a corn/barley malt.
We also occasionally use beer while cooking (as an ingredient), and I have dabbed some beer on my son't face several times with no reaction. And he has no problems eating the food with beer cooked in it.
Does anyone have a barley allergy? Can you eat malted products?
