I have some tapioca cereal that I'm trying with my almost 1 year old, but can't figure out the proper proportions. The package says 1 part cereal to 4/5 parts water, but it just doesn't seem like enough water. Any suggestions or voices of experience??

I've never seen tapioca cereal! Is it just like pearl tapioca?

I had the same question. Even Google didn't help me - which is unusual!!

I think it is probably crushed pearls....maybe it is more like tapioca flour but not as fine. Actually my experiment was defeated when my son decided that he didn't care for it at all. I mixed cooked blueberries in with it and he still would go for it. I'm not sure if it didn't agree with him, or if it was just a preference thing. I've decided to go on to other things and leave grains/starches for later!

Maybe your son just doesn't like the texture. But I'm a fan of tapioca . . .what brand is the cereal?

I got it from the health food store...one of those prepackaged from bulk things. Son's Milling & Healthy Foods Co. is the company. I'm not sure how helpful that is!! I wonder if you could blend tapioca pearls to get a similar thing? The instructions were to soak taioca in liquid for 15 min then cook over medium heat stirring constantly until mixture turns clear. I think the proportions are likely 1:4 tapioca cereal to water, but I didn't really measure, just kept adding liquid!

I'm guessing that you probably could just use tapioca. I'm always a bit wary of bulk goods and the possibility of cross contamination.

I haven't bought tapioca in a long time---I've been buying tapioca starch. I occasionally make pudding with it. (I use the same ratio as you would for making pudding with cornstarch---1/3 cup of starch to 3 cups of liquid.) I have to admit it gets a bit gluey. Cornstarch works better . . . but the tapioca tastes good.
