Education is needed to inform the public that allergies such as to cats or peanuts are not simply, avoid the cat or peanut, walk away policy, or move to a different area. Once exposed-You are exposed. Some people have mild reactions, runny nose, itchy eyes, but to some, like myself, exposure to a cat is life threatening. It's a difficult world to live in, especially when the world around me is not thinking on the same page or working with the same information. Pre-medication May or MAY NOT offer protection. I've discovered this can simply delay the reaction. Once that offending protein is in my lungs nothing is going to stop the reaction; from that point on I must deal with managing the severity of that reaction. There are no hospitals at 3000 ft high to pump medrol intravenously. Yes my eyes get itchy, first sign, then my throat gets itchy, next a tickly cough, next stage my throat swells and I'm gasping for air IN and OUT, and I'm fighting for my life. Cat allergies are serious business for some sufferers.

If I'm doing everything I can to deal with allergy, then I don't feel I should be penalized for this allergy because someone else doesn't have the information to understand the severity of this circumstance. A cat in the cabin could be a death sentence to me.
