A new study raises hopes for skin patches that would desensitize those with peanut or milk allergy.

In a few years, will you be sticking a desensitizing patch on your peanut- or milk-allergic child? That is the great new research hope.

The patch, developed by Paris-based DBV Technologies, has proven effective in allowing test subjects to consume more of an allergen than they could before treatment.

Now a new study indicates that the Viaskin Peanut® patch is not just effective but that the method is also safe for those at risk of anaphylaxis.

Now underway: a clinical safety study of the patch at five centers in the United States.

Allergic Living reported more details of the Viaskin immunotherapy patches last fall, prior to the safety study’s start. Read that article.
