What is a Tree Nut?

Tree nuts are not just one allergen, but in fact a group of allergens. In Canada, for food labeling purposes, the following are considered tree nuts:
Almonds
Brazil nuts
Cashews
Hazelnuts
Macadamia nuts
Pecans
Pine nuts
Pistachios
Walnuts

In the United States, the list is longer. It includes:
Almond
Beech nuts
Brazil nuts
Butternuts
Cashews
Chestnuts
Chinquapins
Coconuts
Filberts/hazelnuts
Ginko nuts
Hickory nuts
Lichee nuts
Macadmamia nuts/Bush nuts
Pecans

Shea nuts
Walnuts
