Soy and Legumes Allergies Section

As any soy-allergic person will tell you, it seems as though the small vegetable is in just about everything – and they’re right.
The only current treatment for these allergies is to avoid all traces of soy and legumes and products that may contain them. If your allergic child (or you) eats soy or legumes with a known allergy, the drug epinephrine (adrenaline) will be needed to halt the reaction.
Q I have a soy allergy, and find that many personal care products, such as shampoos and body wash, contain soy. How concerned do I need to be about soy in these types of products?
Their second date was supposed to be a lovely evening in, complete with takeout vegetarian sushi that he was to buy at a place she trusted with her life. The first time they ever met, Lori Medoff, a Montreal optometrist and divorced mother of two, told Kenny Webber, the new man in her life, about her severe allergy to fish. The entrepreneur accepted it as just another facet in what he hoped would become a relationship. Only when Webber arrived that evening in November 2007 with the food, Medoff noticed to her horror that the sushi wasn’t vegetarian, salmon roe had been sprinkled on top. And she explained all over again that if even a hint of the tainted sushi passed her lips, her throat would close and she wouldn’t be able to breathe, never mind kiss him.
As a magazine writer, Chris Koentges eats, drinks and travels for a living. The 31-year-old Calgary resident has what most people would consider a dream assignment: he samples delicious foods in fabulous resorts and exotic locales. Then he finds the right words to describe to his readers what he eats and what he sees. There’s just one problem in paradise: Koentges is allergic to tree nuts. While he’ll sometimes let restaurants know that he can’t have nuts in meals he orders, mistakes happen about once or twice a year.
It wasn’t the high point of Christmas 2003. During an afternoon party for friends and family at her in-laws’ home, Linda Wagner of Regina made repeated efforts to keep some distance between her tree-nut allergic son, then 4 years old, and the gourmet nuts brought as a gift by friends who knew nothing of his condition.
